How to Become a Member

of Blackrock Baptist Church

Blackrock Baptist Church is made up of members and regular attenders who love Christ and each other. We encourage all who are interested to come and be a part of our services, ministries, studies and fellowships. Membership is not a necessity for participation in the ministries of the church.

We believe that church membership is meaningful. Each candidate for membership must attend our membership classes. During this time, we discuss salvation, baptism, the Lord’s Supper, our purpose and mission statements, our church covenant, our organization and affiliations.

Members of Blackrock Baptist Church must publicly profess a life-changing relationship with Jesus Christ and enter into a covenant with the church. A covenant is a promise made between two parties. In our church covenant, the new members promise to serve God faithfully and help Blackrock Baptist Church be all that God intends. In return, Blackrock Baptist Church promises to build up the new member and help him/her to grow as God intends. God desires that all people in His church grow in spiritual maturity and in service to Him. Our covenant serves as a tool to keep us accountable to God and to each other.

There are four ways by which a person may join Blackrock Baptist Church:

1. By Profession of Faith and Baptism: A person wishing to receive Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior may do so at any time, and shall profess his/her experience before a meeting of the church. The candidate will be baptized upon the completion of the following: making a profession of faith in Christ counseling by the pastor, staff member or lay leader and entering into a covenant together with the church fellowship before God.

2.  By Letter: A person who is a member of another Baptist Church of like faith and doctrine may be received upon receipt of a letter indicating the person is a member in good standing. The privileges and responsibilities of church membership will be fully accorded to the person upon the completion of the following: counseling by the pastor, staff member or lay leader, entering into a covenant together with the church fellowship before God and receipt of promised letter.

3. By Statement: Persons of another denomination who have been baptized according to Baptist doctrine, and wish to unite with this church shall be accorded the privileges and responsibilities of church membership after completing the following: reaffirming their faith in Jesus Christ and their desire to accept Baptist doctrine as their basis of belief, counseling by the pastor, staff member or lay leader and entering into a covenant together with the church fellowship before God. This same procedure shall apply to a person who has a membership in a Baptist Church that is no longer in existence, or where the church records have been lost or destroyed. No promissory letter will be required due to the loss of records.

4. By Statement of Faith and Baptism: Persons of another denomination who have not been baptized according to Baptist tradition, and wish to unite with this church shall be accorded the privileges and responsibilities of church membership after completing the following: reaffirming their faith in Jesus Christ and their willingness to have baptism by immersion in keeping with the doctrine held by this church as stated in The Baptist Faith and Message, counseling by the pastor, staff member or lay leader and entering into a covenant together with the church fellowship before God.

Whether you join by profession of faith, by letter or by statement, you are invited to attend our new members’ class which is a prerequisite to membership.  Please contact the church office for dates and times when this class is offered.
